prized for its serene beauty. Lotus is delightful to behold as its blossom
opens on the surface of a pond. In India the lotus is sacred. Much folklore

The national fruit--MANGO,the most
delicious fruit that is very popular in India, SouthEast Asia and Mexico.
It is full of Vitamin A,B and C. In India there are over 100 varieties
of mangoes, in different sizes and colors. Mangoes have been cultivated
in India since thousands of years ago. The poet Kalidas sang its praises.
Alexander the Great savored its taste,as did the Chinese pilgrem Hieun
Tsang. Akaber planted 100,000 mango trees in Darbhanga, known as Lakhi

The national bird--PEACOCK,the most
beautiful bird in the world. It's melodious songs announce the coming of
the monsoon rains. Peacock is a native of India. It is found both wild
in the jungles and also domisticated in the villages. They were once bred
for food but now hunting of peacocks is banned in India. |
